Latest update: How to obtain maps explains storage-based drops, seven families and universal Storm/Samurai maps. Salvage now previews the exact Dust reward with its icon. Exchange five maps to move to the next family.
DUNGEONS & DUNGEON MAPS — One guide to map-based expeditions. One leader's map opens a run for up to five players. Use the sections below for dungeon access, map drops, layouts, modifiers, crafting and rewards.
THE CARTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Improve a roll, change the route, or trade it to another adventurer.

Materials

Craft and trade in a protection zone, outside combat. Materials must be in your inventory when paying a cost. Crafted materials, salvage Dust, bought/cancelled maps and sale proceeds are delivered to your inbox. Move them into your backpack before use.

Material Use Recipe for one
Cartographic Dust Cartographic Dust Main cartography currency World drops, successful runs or salvaging maps.
Surveyor's Ink Surveyor's Ink Reroll modifiers or add one 8 Dust + 50,000 gold
Ascension Compass Ascension Compass Change layout, upgrade rarity or ascend 20 Dust + 150,000 gold
Preservation Wax Preservation Wax Lock a modifier and preserve locks during rerolls 12 Dust + 100,000 gold
Abyssal Seal Abyssal Seal Permanently seal a qualifying map 40 Dust + 300,000 gold

Crafting operations

Gold scales with the input map's tier. Multiply the gold column by 1 for Normal, 2 Hard, 3 Expert, 4 Master, 5 Torment or 6 Hell. Dust and material amounts stay as listed. Material recipes above have their own fixed price. The client shows the final cost before you act.
Operation Materials / items Base gold Result
Reroll affix families 6 Dust + 1 Ink 100,000 Preserves locked modifiers; rerolls the remaining families and fills all rarity slots.
Reroll values 4 Dust + 1 Ink 75,000 Keeps families and their rolled elements; rerolls unlocked values.
Reroll layout 4 Dust + 1 Compass 50,000 Always changes to one of the other 14 routes. Keeps dungeon, tier, rarity, modifiers and locks.
Add an affix 8 Dust + 1 Ink 150,000 Adds one compatible modifier to an empty slot.
Upgrade rarity 15 Dust + 1 Compass 250,000 Raises rarity by one step, keeps existing modifiers and fills up to one below the new slot capacity.
Scour map 2 Dust 25,000 Returns it to Plain and removes modifiers. Unlock affixes first.
Seal map 20 Dust + 1 Seal 500,000 Master+ and Rare/Exalted only. Random permanent contract; confirmation required.
Lock affix 1 Wax 50,000 Preserves the selected affix; maximum two different locks.
Unlock affix Free 0 Removes a selected lock.
Salvage map Consumes the map 0 Cartographic Dust Dust = tier number × (2 + rarity number): 3 for Normal/Plain up to 36 for Hell/Exalted. The icon and exact amount appear before confirmation; reward goes to inbox.
Exchange to next dungeon 5 maps from the same family 0 Gorgols → Immortals → Storm → Tentacles → Urtrudurks → Samurai → Bloodmoons. Any tiers/rarities, locks and seals. Result goes to inbox.
Ascend maps 30 Dust + 2 Compasses + 3 maps 500,000 Three unlocked, unsealed maps of the same map family and tier become one Plain map of the next tier, with a random layout. Hell cannot ascend.
Locks cost Wax on each reroll. Reroll affix families and Reroll values cost one additional Wax per locked modifier. The initial lock fee does not cover future rerolls. Reroll layout does not charge that lock surcharge.

Choose the right operation

  • I like the modifiers, but not the route: Reroll layout.
  • I like the families, but want stronger rolls: Reroll values. A new value can be worse, equal or better; it is not a guaranteed upgrade.
  • I want to preserve one or two good modifiers: Lock those, then reroll families/values and budget extra Wax.
  • I need more slots: Upgrade rarity. Plain → Inscribed leaves one modifier; Inscribed → Rare fills to three; Rare → Exalted fills to five. Add an affix to fill the last slot.
  • The roll does not fit my build: Reroll while unsealed, scour to Plain, sell or salvage it.
  • I have five spare maps from one family: Exchange to next dungeon. Choose five distinct maps. Each output tier Normal–Hell has a 1/6 chance, each rarity Plain–Exalted a 1/4 chance, and each layout a 1/15 chance. The result has freshly rolled compatible modifiers, no locks and no seal. No extra fee. Storm/Fire Storm share one stage; Samurais/Mage Samurai share one stage, with free destination choice at entry.
  • I have three spare maps: Ascend only if they belong to the same map family and tier. The output loses rarity and modifiers; it does not unlock entry to the new tier.
  • I want a sealed challenge: Finish the roll first. Sealed maps cannot be upgraded, rerolled, unlocked, scoured or ascended. There is no unseal operation.

Trading maps

Use the regular Market to trade maps and Cartographic Dust. Inspect the exact rolled map and offer price before confirming. Move a delivered map to your backpack to open its preview. The old dedicated Map offers tab is hidden in the current interface.
